Being a full-time stay at home mom is a VERY challenging job. When your lil’ guy is PAINFULLY shy and has horrible separation anxiety, it is even harder.
Yesterday I was getting to the end of my rope with holding him and having him sob when I walked out of the room. When we go places he grips his arms around my neck and often won’t let me put him down…. When we go to music classes or play dates he is often the only child sitting on my lap while the other children play about.
When we are home he likes to be in close proximity to me. He often runs his toy trucks up and down my legs when I am trying to cook dinner.  I often reach down and distract him so I can finish….
Then last night as I was surfing the internet, I stumbled across this poem. It was as if it was written for me. For now.  And for that I am grateful.
Sometimes you just need a little perspective that this too shall pass….
Savor these moments while baby is young
Stop wishing to call time your ownTime has a habit of racing awayAnd time will soon leave you all alonePlay hide and seek when he wants you to playPut your old book on the shelfGive him these moments that belong to his dayLove him that bit more than yourselfTake him up on your kneeAnd tell him some talesof Pixies and bunnies at play For when baby is olderAnd he thinks of his MomHe’ll surely remember this daySo savor these moments while baby is youngFor baby will soon be a manAnd these are the years when the best songs are sungSo song them right now if you can

And this morning, when Holden tugged at my pant leg and wanted up, I picked him up and we scrambled our eggs together.  And then we went to music class and held hands because that’s what he needed.  It didn’t matter that he was the only one that needed his mom’s hand to stand up and dance. He won’t need it forever…

Savor these moments while baby is young

Stop wishing to call time your own
Time has a habit of racing away
And time will soon leave you all alone
Play hide and seek when he wants you to play
Put your old book on the shelf
Give him these moments that belong to his day
Love him that bit more than yourself
Take him up on your knee
And tell him some tales
of Pixies and bunnies at play
For when baby is older
And he thinks of his Mom
He’ll surely remember this day
So savor these moments while baby is young
For baby will soon be a man
And these are the years when the best songs are sung
So song them right now if you can
